FIVE THINGS I WANT FOR MY LIVING ROOM MAKEOVER

If you’ve been watching my YouTube videos recently you will have heard me talking about making-over my living room. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for quite a while. Today I wanted to share five key items that define the style I am looking to achieve with living room - as you can see my taste is still for the classic, just with a little less chintz! I believe that these five items have a big enough impact to really change the look and feel of a room, making it a more accurate representation of the person I am today.

Chaise Armchair

This chaise armchair from sofa.com is probably the first thing I will get to change-up my living room. I recently sold my two floral armchairs and have configured the room so that it works without them. My sofa, from John Lewis, is comfortable and still stylish, but I could do with another seating option. The chaise would be a great place to sit and put my feet up to read a book, whilst also handsomely filling a dead corner of the room.

Izmir Rug

The floors in my apartment are hard wood and desperately in need of some soft texture. I’ve been yearning for new rugs since I moved here, but as they are pricey investments I’ve tried not to rush into making a decision. I love the style of these Izmir Rugs from Oka - they add a pop of colour, and some much needed comfort.

For me, lamps are one of the most important items in a room - they set the mood for your home and create its ambience. My current lamps have a floral design, and although I still love them, they’re no longer me. I think these Twig Lamps from Vaughan are so chic and timeless.

Upholstered Ottoman

Comfort is the ultimate goal for my home - I’m constantly thinking of how I can ramp-up the comfort levels and make my spaces more cosy. I would like to replace my Lucite coffee-table with an upholstered ottoman like this one from Oka. The soft linen base is elegant, whilst the embroidered pattern adds charm and colour. There is the worry of the pattern clashing with the rug, but as the rest of the room is very pared-down, I think the eye would quickly resolve the amalgamation of pattern and a harmonious look would reign supreme.

Bureau

Although the bureau that I currently have is not bad, I’m not so keen on the darkness of the wood. I’d also prefer something taller and more commanding. This cabinet from William Yeoward ticks all the boxes - although pricey, it is definitely an investment piece that will stand the test of time
